Proofreading

With corrections appropriate to standard English

I don't do traditional proofreading using printers' symbols; I'm using the term loosely in the modern sense.

I will ensure any document is written in the best standard English: letters, articles, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, dissertations, theses, treatments and scripts for screen, stage or radio. I won't comment on the content, only the language used.

1. Send me your document, adding notes if you wish, explaining any special concerns.
2. I will read it and make corrections in colour, with explanatory notes if appropriate, and return it to you. I will note typing errors and advise on grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and UK English usage. If you have written something I can't understand, I will say so.

Please note:

• Students: I do not write (or re-write) essays or assignments, but I will highlight errors with suggested corrections for you to make yourself.
• Non-students: if you wish, I will make the changes myself in black, once we have agreed exactly what you want done.
• If you need more work done (eg a lot of help with English usage or style) or less (eg a quick proofread for typing errors but not for grammatical errors etc) I will negotiate on fees.

I am grammar school-educated, have an honours degree in English and a PGCE in teaching English.
